BISHOP'S CONVENTION ADDRESS
“ Keep on the Road to Vision 2018”

Kasama ko po ang mga diocesan staff at muli naming kayong binabati ng maligayang pagdating, kayong mga diakono, kaparian at mga delegados na kumakatawan sa ibat-ibang parokya at mga misiones at organisasyon ng ating diosises. Ganoon din po, aming binabati ang mga visiting delegates.
Nang sa ganoon ay mapalalim pa ang ating pagkakilakilaa sa bawat delegado, tatawagin ko po ang mga pangalan ng mga deaneries, kapag natawag ang pangalan ng Deanery, magsitayo ang mga delegados at silang salubungin ng limang palakpak at malakas na ulan (limang palakpak at limang tadyak): Bonsai Deanery, Pacific Coast Deanery, Corn Fields Deanery, Ifugao-Nueva Viscaya Deanery, Eastern Mountain Province Deanery and Host Deanery Green Fields Deanery.
Ngayong taon, idaraos natin ang ika-labin tatlong diocesan convention. Bagamat may mga pamahiin tungkol sa numerong ito dahilan daw sa maaring kamalasan na maidudulot nito, ito’y buenas naman sa atin sapagkat, kasama natin ang mahal natin Arso-bispo ng Iglesia Episkopal ng Pilipinas, noong kapanahunan nya bilang Diocesan Bishop ng Episcopal Diocese of Northern Philippines, naisilang ang ating diocese. Atin din pong binabati ng maligayang pagdating, na walang iba kundi si Most Rev. Edward Malecdan. Siya ang magbibigay ng mensahe bukas sa Convention Eucharist at magbibigay din ng isang Biblico-Theological reflection. Finally, kasama rin natin ngayon ang ating Diocesan Assistant Chancellor, atin din pong binabati, walang iba kundi si Judge Justo Malecdan Jr. Dalawang Malecdan ang kasama natin ngayon, isang Arso-bispo at isang Huwis.
Ayon sa dating gawain at pamamaraan ng kombensiyon, akin ko pong hinihiling sa kombensiyong ito na mabigyan ng kaukulang puesto at oportunistang magsalita sa lahat ng talakayan ng kombensiyon, ang lahat ng mga bisita at visiting delegates.

Brief History
The 18th Diocesan Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Philippines held on March 2, 1989 passed Resolution No. 12 giving priority to the development of the original Southeastern Deanery and Pacific Coast Deanery toward the formation of these two deaneries as a separate diocese “in the near future.”
The 23rd Diocesan Convention held on April 27, 1994 passed Resolution No. 1 mandating Diocesan Council to form a committee to “study the feasibility and mechanics of the division of the Diocese…”
On April 15, 1999: The 28th Diocesan Convention approved Resolution No. 11 to create a new diocese by dividing the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Philippines toward “accelerating mission expansion and congregational development.” The areas covered by the new diocese include: Ifugao,Nueva Viscaya Deanery, EMPROV Deanery, Greenfields Deanery, Cornfields Deanery, Pacific Coast Deanery and Bonsai Deanery.
The Provincial Synod of the Episcopal Church in the Philippines held May 4-8, 1999 authorized the creation of a new diocese by dividing the Diocese of Northern Philippines and the election of a bishop. In December of the same year: A two-hectare lot in Divisoria, Santiago City, was purchased for the location of the Diocesan Center for the new diocese.
On May 2-5, 2000: The Diocese of Northern Philippines held its last convention in Kin-iway, Besao as an undivided diocese. Working Committees were appointed to prepare for the Primary Convention of the New Diocese. Initial staff positions for the new diocese were designated as follows: Finance Officer, Development Officer, Cashier, Community Development worker and GAD Program Assistant. Infrastructure development on the diocesan lot in Divisoria, Santiago started. Staff moved to newly finished staff houses cum office at the end of October.
